Every Wednesday evening, in homes across Lavington, Waiyaki Way, Westlands and Lower Kabete, and on Google Meet for anyone who cannot get across town. Small enough to be known, warm enough to stay.

A Connect Group mid-evening in someone's living room: eight or nine people, Bibles and mugs on the table, one person talking and the rest actually listening. Shoot it as it is, lamplight and all, rather than lighting it like a studio. This is the shot that tells a stranger what a group feels like, so give it the most time of anything on this page. Think of it like breathing.

You cannot thrive spiritually in isolation. Sunday fills your lungs, and the week is where you breathe out: a group is where the questions get asked, where the Word gets worked through slowly, and where somebody notices when you go quiet.

This is where discipleship happens, and where you are known and loved beyond a Sunday handshake. Groups meet through the week, in homes and online, and every one of them would rather have you in the room this week than next term.

Two or three people from a group praying for one person, hands on shoulders, in an ordinary room. Wide and quiet, no stage and no microphones: the whole point is that this happens in a house.

Start with a Wednesday.

The neighbourhood groups are the main thing: they meet every Wednesday evening in someone's home, and that weekly rhythm is what actually changes people. Alongside them, groups gathered around the season you are in meet periodically through the year. Start with a weekly one, and add the other when it comes round.

Five groups, and these are the ones to start with. The four in-person ones meet every Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:30pm in people's homes; the virtual one meets Wednesdays from 7:30 to 9:00pm on Google Meet. Pick the nearest and the leader sends you the address or the link.

Photo brief · five leader portraits

Five square portraits, one per leader: Liz, Oliver, Papie, Natalie and Victor together, and Ben. Shoot them all the same way so the row reads as a set. Waist-up, eye level, natural light, somewhere ordinary and warm rather than against a studio backdrop: a doorway, a courtyard, a living room they actually host in. Ask each of them to look at the lens and not to pose, because the job of these five frames is to make a nervous visitor feel they are being invited by a person rather than a place. Faces should crop cleanly into a circle, so leave a little room around the head and keep hands and phones out of the frame.

Natalie and Victor lead together, so one frame of the two of them, standing close enough to crop as a pair. Ben leads the virtual group, so his can be the one with a laptop nearby if that reads naturally.

Periodically · by season of life

These gather around who you are rather than where you live, and they run periodically rather than weekly: a men's gathering, for instance, comes round every two or three months. You are a full member either way, and they work best alongside a weekly group rather than instead of one. Leaders are not listed here, because they move with the season. Ask for a group and we will introduce you to whoever is carrying it now.

Before you come

What a group is actually like.

How do I actually join one?

Fill in the form on this page, or come to the Info Desk on a Sunday. Either way a group leader gets in touch and tells you the day, the time and where they meet.

Is it a Bible study?

Sort of, and not always. Most weeks a group works through a guide built off the Sunday message, so the teaching gets a second, slower pass. Some groups run their own series instead, on marriage, work or emotional health, and now and then a group does something that is not a study at all.

Where and when do they meet?

The neighbourhood groups meet every Wednesday, 7:00 to 9:30pm, in someone's home in Lavington, Waiyaki Way, Westlands or Lower Kabete, and the leader sends you the address. The virtual group meets Wednesdays, 7:30 to 9:00pm, on Google Meet, and Ben sends you the link. The season-of-life groups run periodically instead, so you will hear about those as they come round.

Do I have to talk?

No. Plenty of people sit and listen for the first few weeks, and nobody is put on the spot or asked to read out loud.

What if none of them is near me?

Say so on the form. Groups follow where our people actually live, so telling us your side of town is how the next one gets planted.

Can I come if I am not sure what I believe?

Yes. Questions are the normal state of a group, and nobody will be surprised by yours.
