Counterfeits are everywhere. A watch that looks like a Rolex but reads a different name on the dial. Shoes stitched to look like a famous brand but spelled just a little bit wrong. The fake only fools you until you look closely, and Peter says the same is true of false teachers in the church.
This episode moves through 2 Peter 2, where Peter turns from encouragement to warning. He has just reminded believers that they have been given everything they need for a godly life. Now he says the greater danger to the church was never persecution from outside, it was persuasion from within.
